Seats
Most 3 wheel double buggies start life as single pushchairs, but some can be converted to take the seat of a second person or carrycot using adapters (these are usually more common in tandem buggies). There are also models let you add a ride-on board to older children who want to walk, but need some help.
Check out the Joie Evalite Duo for a lightweight option perfect for urban streets. It's easy to move, and it has an enormous basket that has plenty of storage. It can accommodate twins starting at birth and will accept two car seats, or a carrycot with seat. However, the seats have to be facing forwards, and there's no space for a shopping bag under and you'll need a backpack for that.
If you're looking to go off-road and off-road, the Mountain Buggy Duet is a great option. It's a side by tandem with the most compact footprint of any double buggy on the market. It offers 30 different seating options as well as a built-in table for older children who like to walk, and a 'cinema' mode which raises the back seats for better visibility.
The phil&teds dots are great single buggys that can be easily modified to take two (or three!) Multiple configurations are possible. This is particularly helpful if you have an infant in a car seat as the frame can be fitted with a wedgie for optimum lying flat, or car seat adapters to various brands.
Suspension
The quality of the suspension in a 3-wheel double buggy is crucial to how it will be easy for you and your child to push. It is important to have a smooth ride, as babies can feel every bump in the road. This is particularly true if you are driving on rough terrain like grass or unpaved roads. Certain models also have front wheels that lock to assist with maneuvering and getting over obstacles such as curbs.
Some models have air-filled tyres which are ideal for all-terrain riding, however they are susceptible to punctures. Be sure to keep an extra set of tyres inside the trunk. Some models have gel-filled or foam-filled tyres that are designed to cushion bumps. 3 wheeler buggies can be less likely to puncture, but they may be uncomfortable for your child if they decide to jog.

Folding
A 3 wheel double buggy can fold pretty neatly for storage. There are options that fold flat, stand up (as as if they were the form of a pushchair) and those that are able to open up to reveal more umbrella-like folding that has an operated break. In general, the more wheels a buggy comes with the more able it will be to handle on rough terrain. This is particularly true if your wheels are larger than typical size. You will have more stability and it's less likely that you have to tip over or flip your child.
